Doris Salcedo is the latest artist to feature in The Tate Modern's huge Turbine Hall. Her artwork Shibboleth is a huge crack in the concrete floor and stretches the length of the hall.
According to The Tate, "in breaking open the floor of the museum, Salcedo is exposing a fracture in modernity itself. Her work encourages us to confront uncomfortable truths about our history and about ourselves with absolute candidness, and without self-deception."
I have to disagree. On my visit today no-one seemed uncomfortable with the piece, in fact it seemed to bring people nothing but joy.
